Artist Statement

“I paint to help others feel, understand, and accept the grace of God in their own lives. My work explores the intersection of grace and our own humanity.”

Using abstract and mixed media techniques, each creation is a visual representation of my faith journey. Life is painful, annoying, complex and heartbreaking. Each piece of art I create is layered in meaning. And just like faith or religion, it’s up to the viewer to unpack the personal symbolism represented within each piece of art. My designs are inspired by the key elements of art: line, form, shape, color, value, form, texture and space. Each piece highlights a distinct art element as a way of expressing a feeling or message. Additionally, many paintings include certain words or phrases cut out from newspaper clippings or magazines to help tell a deeper, more intimate story.

I’m motivated most by the earthly and heavenly connections we make throughout our lifetimes. I’m deeply drawn to paint from my own personal experiences and I’m inspired by individuals that have left an impression on my heart. Ultimately, I hope my art is able to be a transformative experience and a way for people to seek out God. But through God’s grace, we can transform our everyday burdens into lasting beauty. Our individual messes can be made magical.
